Serving as the Director of Clara's House is a great ministry opportunity for someone who is looking to help girls/women in unplanned crisis pregnancies who are temporarily homeless. Clara's House is a shepherding home ministry that just does this. We provide a safe caring home for women to reside in who have been kicked out by their boyfriends, or even by their parents. Not only do we provide shelter, food, and clothing, but we provide the girls/women with so many other things as well. We address their emotional needs, spiritual needs, educational needs, and even their social needs. The pregnant girls/women live in a private family home, not in a large maternity group home, so one-on-one care is developed and nurtured. Independent skills are taught to the women and the women can stay up to 6 months after they give birth to their baby. Women are required to attend church as we are a Christian ministry and we believe that this is a vital part of their healing process. For a complete position description click here,

House Managers of Alderson Hospitality House Alderson Hospitality House Alderson, WV
Compensation:  Not provided
Contact: David and Rebecca King Email:  ahh@charterinternet.com Phone:  Not provided
Address:  P O Box 579  Alderson, WV 24910
The Alderson Hospitality House (AHH) is seeking full-time workers willing to make a commitment to carry out the mission of the House and live in international community. AHH is a ministry of concern and compassion for the families and friends of women incarcerated at the Federal Prison Camp in Alderson, West Virginia. AHH provides lodging, meals, transportation assistance, counseling, and information to the visitors coming to support their friends and loved ones in prison.

We are seeking a mature individual or a couple to coordinate the activities and to oversee all the functions of the ministry in AHH. The person or persons selected will be expected to work with, and initially under the direction of, the present managers. It is expected that the person or persons who assume the position will be able to assume full responsibility for the ministry after several weeks of orientation. The nature of the work requires responsible individuals with a good sense of humor and genuine flexibility.

The work of AHH is cyclical but hardly predictable. We have an influx of guests nearly every weekend, but between times there are chores of house cleaning, property maintenance, laundry, shopping and planning for the next group of weekend visitors. Attending to the needs of those guests is the first priority of the ministry. The work finally requires reasonably good health in mind and body. But most important is the necessity for a mature spiritual life. Denomination is not important, but a centered spirituality is crucial. Many of our visitors are struggling to get beyond the pain of betrayal, to keep families intact, and to experience forgiveness on new and deeper levels. Our job is "to learn to love others without judging whether or not they are worthy" and to pray that we may be models of that sort of love for our guests.

In addition to the primary work of the AHH with families of incarcerated women, there is community involvement with the people of Alderson through the Alderson Ministerial Association. Among the several ongoing activities of the Ministerial Association are: a food pantry, joint ecumenical prayer and fellowship events. Alderson is a small (population 1,000) rural community surrounded by mountains with the beautiful Greenbrier River cutting right through the center of the town. It is in a somewhat remote location on the eastern edge of central Appalachia and does not have many of the "typical" shopping mall activities found in suburban America. Those who enjoy a quiet but close-knit community will find Alderson interesting and attractive.

Persons interested must not be afraid of leading a life of downward mobility and simplicity, and must be willing to accept the challenge of working with families and individuals who are under a great deal of stress. Compensation consists of lodging, good meals, an annual stipend with health insurance, and spiritual wealth beyond measure.

Reply to David and Rebecca King, Alderson Hospitality House, P O Box 579, Alderson, West Virginia 24910. Email: ahh@charterinternet.com.
